About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, McAlester, Ok. This position serves as the Emergency Medical Coordinator, delivering training to first responders. Also serves as a fully trained member of a fire fighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property.

Duties

Serve as an Emergency Medical Coordinator to ensure that Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic training and certification adhere to regulatory standards. Develop lesson plans for Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic training. Perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires. Operate firefighting equipment (e.g., hoses, ladders, hydrants) to fight structural fires. Provide critical medical care and emergency treatment to patients in urgent situations, stabilizing their condition and ensuring safe transport to medical facilities.

  • The position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position requires incumbent to wear a uniform and/or wear personal protective equipment as appropriate and complies with OSHA safety and health directives.
  • This position requires a 72-hour work week (144 hours bi-weekly).
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical fitness assessment and continued participation in a scheduled physical fitness program as directed by current Department of Army regulatory guidance.
  • This position requires incumbent to work both inside and outside with possibility exposure to inclement weather.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; delivering comprehensive training in firefighting, emergency response, and/or medical emergency response techniques; identifying, mitigating, or eliminating potential fire hazards in compliance with established protocols; controlling hazardous material incidents by implementing safety protocols; and conducting thorough inspections of firefighting equipment, apparatus, or tools to confirm they are in optimal working condition. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Maximum Entry Age (MEA) The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37thbirthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions. Maximum Re-entry Age The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37thbirthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions. Maximum Re-entry Age An employee who previously served on a covered position may be rehired past the MEA as long as he/she is able to complete 20years of covered service by his/her mandatory retirement age. The maximum re-entry age for the individual is calculated by determining the total amount of time he/she has served on a covered position and subtracting that from age 57, if a firefighter. The employee's current age is compared to the calculated maximum re-entry age to determine if he/she can be rehired into the covered position. Waivers to Maximum Entry Age MEA may be waived, but only under specific circumstances and only if approved by the authorized entity: Waivers to MEA for firefighters must be approved by local Command.
