About the Position: This position is located in the Physical Security Branch with Department of Emergency Services, Warren, Michigan.
Duties
Serves as a Security Assistant at the Visitor Control Center, responsible for control procedures for a multi-mission joint base military installation during all Force Protection levels.
Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
Evaluates and analyzes local access control policies and procedures to identify ineffective or inefficient operating procedures.
Controls, prepares, issues identification cards, building badges, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel, and visitors on to the installation.
Operates and maintains various items of access control equipment and automated systems to include computer equipment used in the identification and registration process.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS).
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification to operate the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) and the NCIC terminals.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain access to Automated Installation Entry system (AIE) and Army Law Enforcement Reporting and Tracking system (ALERTS).
- Occasional TDY travel is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into secured area or installations; transcribing data using special codes IAW federal and state regulations (e.g. style codes, manufacturer's codes, wanted or missing persons, etc.); and dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible for access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
