Duties

Responsible for safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction. Grant access to those individuals that have met screening requirements and demonstrate a need to access the installation. Provide significant support to the overall installation Antiterrorism/ Force Protection (AT/FP) capability. Makes daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures. Checks on work in progress to ensure supervisor's instructions on work sequence procedures are met. Incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments. Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws. First responder to emergency recall and provide immediate response to active shooter and other situations such as terrorist threat, national emergencies and natural disasters. Secures installation from all entry on own initiative or upon notification of alarm or emergency. Make immediate decisions regarding use of deadly force, operates Active Vehicle Barriers (AVB) when required, and alerts appropriate officials of apparent security violations. Detains violators, identifies witnesses and renders first aid to the injured commensurate with training and certifications. Ensures incident scenes are preserved for law enforcement investigators and provides written reports of findings based on criminal incidents.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminal
  • Employee will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program for emotional stability, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions. IAW AR 190-56.
  • Drug testing designated position.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee required to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Must be able to wear a protective mask.
