This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Perform a variety of helper level tasks associated with the trades of Roads Maintenance Worker.
Perform tasks preparatory to work of journeyman and accomplishes routine and repetitive tasks.
Operate small Government vehicle, utility carts.
Perform operator maintenance on equipment used by self and others, including maintaining adequate fuel, oil and water levels.
Assist in construction of manholes, catch basins, steps, patches holes or worn places in concrete and asphalt pavement
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health/ability/fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work/remain at work as scheduled.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Roads Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair work as appropriate. I can perform maintenance and repair work on manholes, catch basins, and roadways, patches holes or worn places in asphalt pavement, repair fences (steel security and wrought iron), paint crosswalks and traffic markings. I operate leaf machines, clear catch basins and picks up trash. I use rakes, shovels and other hand tools. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Performs heavy lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance in carrying materials. Required to stand and bend while working and to climb ladders and scaffolds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside, in all types of weather. Is exposed to dirt, dust, and soot in part of work. Is required to wear and/or use protective equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulation and SOP's.
