You will serve as a Physical Science Technician in the Initial Testing Department of NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL.
Duties
You will receive and prepare hand delivered specimens and maintain precise forensic chain of custody requirements.
You will make precise quantitative liquid transfers using appropriate analytical equipment.
You will maintain detailed sample identification and inventory control using manual methods, bar code and computer technology.
You will comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and all applicable rules, regulations and instructions.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to maintain certification in areas of responsibility and comply with certification standards as required by NAVDRUGLAB Great Lakes applicable instructions and Local Operating Procedures.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate 6 months of general experience defined as (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1)Utilizing routine operations and procedures; 2)Operating a computer and 3)General knowledge of safety practices.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1)Utilizing laboratory operations, procedures, and record systems; 2) Measuring liquid and liquid transfers using laboratory equipment; 3)Maintaining sample identification and inventory control using manual methods or computer technology; 4) Utilizing laboratory requirements and standardized operational procedures; and 5)Utilizing laboratory safety procedures.

Education
In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-04:
Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Successful completion of 2 years (60 semester hours) above high school directly related to the position that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university.
Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the transcripts.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-05:
Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Successful completion of a 4-year (120 semester hours) course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses directly related to the position (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
Foreign Education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
