You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory, Great Lakes Illinois of NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL.
Duties
You will receive and review four classes of urine batches from the Accessioning Section.
You will conduct initial troubleshooting of minor mechanical and instrumental problems such as barcode read errors, rack jams, and probe crashes.
You will ensure that instruments have sufficient supplies at all times to conduct immunoassay testing.
You will maintain log entries for all batches processed by the screening section.
You will be responsible for calibrating each instrument, on a daily basis or as needed, before testing samples.
You will re-test failed batches as necessary.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- Work requires the ability to lift sample batches weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work requires long periods of standing and walking with some sitting, crouching or bending may be necessary while providing preventative maintenance to analytical instruments.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Operating automated analyzers to conduct analysis of specimen screening results.
Processing urine specimens for laboratory testing.
Identifying problems with tests performed such as unusual reactions or unusual instrument responses.
Assigning laboratory accessioning numbers to aliquots of specimens for forensic testing.
Diagnosing instrument malfunctions and operating problems.

Education
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Successful completion of 6 months of graduate level education
(9 semester hours) directly related to the position. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university. (

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements.
