About the Position: Serves as the Physical Security Specialist for an Army installation with facilities dispersed over a 7,000 acre area. Responsible for protecting conventional small arms, ammunition, and explosives; storage and work areas; installation personnel, and property; and a one-of-a-kind Strategic National Defense Asset
Duties
Duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity if selected at the GS-09 grade level. At the full performance, GS-11, the incumbent will:
Advises the Director of Emergency Services on all physical security matters.
Monitors the key control system, mobility badge system and security exchange badge system to insure adequacy and regulatory compliance.
Has oversight and of the Installation Access Control policies and procedures and maintains operational command over the Department of the Army Security Guards (DASGs).
Administratively supervises conduct of formal investigations, briefs investigating officers, provides guidance and monitors preparation of report, coordinates with other staff elements.
Prepares reports and makes recommendations for remedial actions when warranted to appropriate supervisors/chiefs.
Operates as an individual or as a team leader and is responsible for documenting findings and monitoring follow-up corrective actions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State's driver's license.

Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes experience assisting with conducting physical or industrial security inspections and assisting with the evaluation of findings and developments to recommend security changes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Security Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with conducting physical or industrial security inspections and with the evaluation of findings and developments to recommend security changes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education for the GS-11 Grade Level: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: cyber security, security management, risk management, homeland security.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience for the GS-11 Grade Level: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
