This position is located in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, in the Branch of Administration Division. The primary purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of standard and non-standard administrative support and clerical tasks and resolution of recurring, and to a lesser degree, non-recurring problems in support of human resources, budget, acquisition and property management, and other administrative support services, and to perform staff support work in each of these areas.

Duties

The Administrative Support Assistant (OA) is an important member of the administrative team at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, providing a number of vital services for the park and its employees. Major duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Serves as receptionist for the Headquarters building, answering the telephone and greeting and assisting office visitors. Processes all incoming and outgoing mail. Arranges travel for all employees, preparing travel authorizations and vouchers, and answering technical questions related to travel. Serves as the primary timekeeper for the park, processing electronic time and attendance records and working with the payroll office to resolve problems. Prepares and manages correspondence and memoranda and maintains both electronic and paper files. In addition, at the GS-05 level: Manages accountable property for the park, maintaining current inventory records in FBMS and assisting with the disposal of excess/surplus property. Provides more in-depth knowledge of travel related questions. Provides more in-depth knowledge of payroll related questions. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. AREA INFORMATION: Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in the badlands of western North Dakota. The park consists of three separate Units: The South Unit, Elkhorn Ranch Unit, and North Unit. The colorful Little Missouri River Badlands provide a scenic backdrop to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is home to a variety of plants and abundant wildlife, including bison, elk, wild horses, and bighorn sheep to name a few. The headquarters office is located in the South Unit. The position is based at park headquarters in Medora (population 100), which is located on I-94, 26 miles from the Montana line. Medora is a mostly seasonal town with a wider variety of services available from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Winter services are limited but include a U.S. Post Office, bank, restaurant, convenience store/gas station, and a few shops. The nearest medical facilities are located 35 miles east of Medora in Dickinson, North Dakota along 1-94 (population 16,010). Year-round services, including a state university, hospital, and airport can be found in Dickinson. Elementary and high schools are located in Belfield (population 975) 15 miles east of Medora, South Heart (population 358), 25 miles east of Medora, and Beach (population 1,103), 25 miles west of Medora. An elementary school (K-8) is located in Medora and high school students have the option to be transported to Belfield or Beach. Summers are warm and sunny with temperatures occasionally reaching 100 degrees F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Winters are invigorating, with temperatures sometimes reaching -40 degrees F. Skies are usually sunny. Snow is sporadic in the relatively dry climate, but heavy snow and blizzards are possible. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/03/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT/SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs office automation, and the position is required to type 40 words per minute. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. Examples of general experience include, but are not limited to, preparing letters and memos, operating a variety of office equipment, answering telephones and greeting visitors, disseminating information, providing information, etc. You must include hours per week worked in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of successfully completed education above the high school in any field of study for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite. (This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school). You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, six (6) months of general experience (50% of the experience requirements for this position and grade level) combined with one year of education as described above (50% of the education required to qualify). You must include transcripts and include hours per week worked in your resume. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Administrative Support Assistant (OA), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience may include but is not limited to, knowledge of maintaining a filing system both electronic and hard copy, the use of computers to develop correspondence, memos, forms and other standardized documents, experience preparing time and attendance, the administrative processes and procedures in travel, and knowledge of commonly used software including word processing. You must include hours per week worked in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, such as in business administration, recreation management, public relations, and/or communications, or that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in such subjects. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified above (50% of the related coursework required). You must include transcripts and hours per week worked in your resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
