Duties

As an Emergency Management Specialist, you will: Operate as the central point of information management and exchange for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Execute and coordinate CDC's Biological Incident Notification and Assessment (BINA) actions in concert with the National Security Council Director for Countering Biological Threats, through HHS and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) when an acute high-consequence biological threat or incident of national or international significance is suspected. Initiate readiness checks for Subject Matter Expert (SME)s based on threat information and inform them of the need for and/or availability of national security information for review at higher security clearance levels. Perform work to prevent, protect from, prepare for, respond to, recover from and/or mitigate natural or man-made emergencies.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: delivering public health support and providing technical assistance in support of the development of preparedness, response, and recovery activities associated with domestic and international public health emergencies. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR Have a combination of education and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirement for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
