This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants.
Duties
Provide a program of instruction for the major and optional field of study in electric circuits, electronics, energy conversion, system theory, digital design, communication, computer engineering and physical electronics.
Assist in setting up laboratory areas for cadet academic instruction.
Check equipment used in labs is functional for use in order to simulate designated operating conditions.
Evaluate, prepare and track equipment that require outside repair and calibration
Perform repair and maintenance on the various types of equipment
Evaluate equipment that requires outside repair and calibration.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as
described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized and Other Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) assisting with organizing instructional materials, (2) performing maintenance and/or repairs on equipment and 3) operating electronic equipment such as generators or frequency counters, etc...This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
