This position is with the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), within the Office of Communications (OOC), in the National Office located in Washington, D.C.
This position is at the full performance level.
This position is outside the bargaining unit.
Selectee will be expected to report to the office listed above. Current DOL policy requires on-site work at least 5 days per pay period.
Duties
Duties for the Supervisory Communications Specialist include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as a media spokesperson and program information specialist in OOC responsible for developing and carrying out a wide range of communications activities in support of highly complex and often controversial policies, programs, and activities.
Reviews and evaluates a wide range of communications, media and outreach material prepared by OOC 's communications staff members.
Creates annual or semi-annual strategic plans for information and educational dissemination.
Coordinates and collaborates with the Department's Office of Public Affairs to ensure seamless, effective coordination between the agency's communications program and the media activities carried out by the Department.
Ensures that strategic plans and products are aligned with office goals, agency priorities and program needs.
Writes and edits informational materials that are definitive expressions or explanations of OSHA policies and programs
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
- Subject to financial disclosure requirements.
- Requires a supervisory probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
Qualifications
For the GS-14: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Qualifying specialized experience for GS-14 includes: developing and/or implementing an organization's communications program; implementing social media plans/strategies across available social media channels (ie.Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Linked In, etc.) to increase brand awareness and disseminate information to the public.
Education
Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
