Duties

Ensures that all collected data meets quality requirements before turn-in. Responsible for making sure all project information is set up prior to field work. Able to adapt to changing conditions and goals, ability to adapt as the requirements on any given day can be subject to changes. Collects hydrographic data with field surveys using state of the art equipment and gear utilizing hydrographic and GPS knowledge. Leads a crew in the field for work with minimal supervision often in remote locations. In charge of a Corps vessel and all associated crew for the period of work.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a USACE Motorboat Operator License.
  • Required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR Certifications.
  • Required to travel away from the worksite 80% of the time.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Required to wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) at all times while working on open floating plant decks.
  • Position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Working in land/hydrographic surveying, drafting, field data collection; 2) knowledge of principals of hydrographic surveying and acoustic based survey methods; and 3) Experience leading field crews in survey work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
