About the Position: This position serves as an Electrician with responsibility for performing a variety of electrical and electronic work on electrical systems and equipment and preventative maintenance on standby generators with Navigation Division in Portland, OR. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA)

Duties

Perform diagnostic major maintenance inspections, new installation, electrical components equipment at facilities, docking, and piers characterized by shore power and related equipment. Install, maintains, and repairs electric wiring systems, related switches and controls, distribution panels, and outlet boxes designed to carry single phase and three phase up to 480 volts. Perform major maintenance, rehabilitation and new installation of highly complex electrical systems and equipment. Installs, designs, modifies, adjusts, tests, calibrates. Respond to emergency situations such as call-outs at night in adverse weather conditions to restore power to project facilities. Inspect, troubleshoot, and/or disassemble the electrical components of the associated equipment located within the assigned area, (such as generators, pumps, compressors. Perform a variety of other work in support of operations as necessitated by fluctuations in maintenance schedules, peak visitation demand, availability of other employees. Establish records and data and maintain in connection with electrical maintenance and repair work, referring to such records as applicable on subsequent operations. Refers to electrical technical manuals, drawings and diagrams as necessary.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires that incumbent must possess and maintain a motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements.
  • This position requires that incumbent must possess and maintain a a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within one year of starting the position and maintain this license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Electrician and Facility Maintenance tasks such as Planning and laying out work and completing repairs and installations with little or no technical advice. I work under the close supervision of a work leader or journey-level Electrician who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifts and carries larger assemblies or complete units exceeding 50 pounds with assistance. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body in installing, repairing, operating, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, machinery recesses, outlet stilling basin walls, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders, scaffolding, and works from suspended stages. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside during the day or night, subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water which is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high traffic and noise areas. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
