This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for 5 U.S.C. 9905, dated 10/15/2021 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Make scheduled and special operational checks of equipment. Observes gauges, listen, note unusual conditions (heating, oil or grease loss, loose fittings, broken or inoperative units, etc. Make repairs or adjustments as required. Itemize materials and parts used. Reports findings, need for special future checks and actions taken to the Chief Electrician. Make periodic or special preventive maintenance checks of units. Change instrument charts. Listen, dismantle, observe, replace scheduled or worn elements, lubricates, packs, repairs, etc., as indicated. Report actions taken, need for further attention, and unusual results. Install replacement or new equipment (floodlights, signals, fixtures, etc.). Repair, or participate in the repair, of any electrical unit on board (motors, pumps, generators, control panels, special equipment, etc.). Stand watch if required (normally works on day shift).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • You will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment physical and annual thereafter.
  • This is a mandatory drug Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with EP 600-1-300, USACE Drug Testing Procedures for the Army's Drug-Free Federal Workplace (DFW) Program, dated 28 Feb 01.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): for Marine Electrician (Dual Rate), WK-2805-12 position. You must possess a current United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), with a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) with valid Electrician's Endorsement, or be able to obtain one within 18 months of entrance on duty AND a current Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). - You MUST UPLOAD your USCG Credentials or you may be rated ineligible.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to extremes of weather conditions, heat, and noise. There is danger of slippery decks and drowning. Must wear appropriate safety gear and protective clothing as required, and comply with sound safety practices. May be exposed to hot pipes, escaping steam and the effects of acids, solvents, and paint. TDY UP TO 95% may be required. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires moderate physical effort. Lifts and carries equipment and supplies normally up to 45 lbs. and occasionally over 45 lbs. Work requires prolonged standing, walking and climbing, all of which can cause exertion of the lower back. The employee must maintain good lower back physical condition. Incumbent must have color and depth perception and be able to see by low visibility conditions in order to perform duties. IAW NPPR 690-1-530 this position is dual-rated to the position of Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, WK-2610-13 (HE299197). If qualified and possesses appropriate U.S. Coast Guard License/Certification, incumbent may be assigned to perform these duties on an intermittent, dual-rated capacity.
