The purpose of this position is to perform receptionist, record keeping, data-entering and retrieving patient data associated with patient care and treatment providing Navajo translation as needed. Miscellaneous support to the medical imaging services and staff of the department. This position is located at the Chinle Service Unit, Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, Division of Clinical Services, Radiology Department, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Checks in patients for appointments and request charts from medical records.
Provides Navajo and English interpretation and translation to answer patient questions regarding services, scheduling, and informing preps for patients before exams.
Answers the telephone, provides non-confidential information or refers the caller to appropriate staff.
Receives incoming correspondence based upon subject matter content and maintains record of incoming correspondence and documents requiring action.
Relays information to other offices, collects data, prepares reports, or otherwise acts on requests received from elsewhere in the organization concerning report or film/compact disc (CD) requests.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
GS-04: 1 year of general experience
GS-05: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. (Ex: Document and refer inquiries that require technical knowledge to the appropriate source, prepare written correspondence for review and signature, provide patient registration and eligibility services information, interact with patients and process demographic and insurance information for alternatives resources, private and commercial insurance, and schedule patients for upcoming appointments.)
General Experience (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter) - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter) - Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
OR SUBSTUTUING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
GS-04: 2 years of education above high school.
GS-05: 4 year of education above high school.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
