The primary purpose of this position is to Lead duties of Medical Support Assistants who provide registration and eligibility services which are the key points of interaction with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, Purchased Referred Care Services, and private and commercial insurance. This position is located at the Chinle Service Unit, Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, Administrative Services, Business Office, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Distributes and balances the workload in accordance with established workflow.
Keeps in touch with status and progress of work, adjusts in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlog.
Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
Maintains, verifies, key-enters, and updates alternate resource data necessary for accurate billing; obtains third party coverage information; collects and copies health insurance cards.
Obtains prior authorizations for care for billing purposes of health care services received for Indian and/or non Indian beneficiaries.
Determines eligibility of patients seeking health care.
Explains the program to the patients for the need of Medicare/ Medicaid and/or private /commercial insurance
Interviews patients and/or family members to obtain pertinent and accurate patient registration information.
Interviews patients to obtain information and to initiate new health records.
Communicates and assists Contact Representative in obtaining pre-screens and/or applications.
Determines which patients need to be pre-screened and/or referred to the Contact Representative.
Records to retrieve the retired/stored record.
Operates personal computers to use web-based software and printing equipment.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Interviewing patients to obtain demographic information, collecting and extracting data for reports, obtain and verify third party insurance information, and determine and resolve discrepancies/denials for unpaid medical claims, determining eligibility of patients seeking health care, obtaining prior authorizations for billing purposes of health care services, assigning tasks to employees, providing instruction and assistance in tasks/job techniques to accomplish projects.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
