The primary purpose of this MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-4749-11, position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Duties

Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work. Perform work. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. Oversee and assist mechanical installation, maintenance, repair of ASM/NC/CNC/Robotic/lPE/RPIE equipment. Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, guides, codes, and work orders, in the installation maintenance, and repair of ASM/NC/CNC/Robotic/IPE/RPIE equipment and facilities. Perform tasks of various skills that include electrical, mechanical and pipefitting repairs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance and Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Lead Or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, standing and stooping. On-Site work typically requires crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolds, and rooftops. Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material. Requires physical effort which includes prolonged standing on production lines; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolds; working cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting and bending while using hand and powered tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Is frequently required to perform heavy lifting, 25 pounds and over with mechanical or human assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works indoors and outdoors on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to chemicals, heat, steam, noise, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Occasionally works outside on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Subject to possible bums, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemical irritations. To reduce dangers from these and other similar conditions follows prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as safety glasses, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hard hats, and fire retardant gloves. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
