This position is located in the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Visa Services Directorate, Office of Domestic Operations, Remote Processing Unit. The Supervisory Visa Specialist will supervise and lead a team of Visa Specialists responsible for the processing of certain nonimmigrant visa applications received by consular sections overseas for which interviews are not required.
Duties
Plans, schedules, and prioritizes the work of approximately 20 to 30 subordinate staff and handles all aspects of performance management for subordinate staff.
Performs comprehensive analyses of complex policy relating to the execution of the visa functions performed by their team, particularly where there are novel legal issues or unprecedented situations.
Ensures team is informed of new and amended policies, procedures, laws, and regulations which may impact processing by the team of nonimmigrant visa applications.
Briefs Visa Office leadership on the progress of work performed by their team, including recommendations to adapt new strategies, approaches, and alternatives to how work by the team is performed.
Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with managers at consular sections overseas to ensure their team is processing visa applications adhering to post standard operating procedures and maximizing throughput of processed applications
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in work such as developing, examining, investigating, adjudicating, or authorizing claims arising under the immigration and/or nationality laws of the United States.
In addition, applicant's experience must also demonstrate that the candidate possesses the following qualities:
Ability to assign, review, and supervise the work of others;
Objectivity and fairness in judging people on their ability, and situations on the facts and circumstances;
Ability to adjust to change, work pressures, or difficult situations without undue stress;
Willingness to consider new ideas or divergent points of view; and
