The Prosthetics Clerk, under Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Service (PSAS), will serve as the first point of contact for customers that require prosthetics services via face-to-face, telephone, or delivery. The selectee is responsible for answering phones, receiving walk-ins, answering emails, providing Prosthetics program information, ensuring equipment & supplies are posted to the patient's record, receiving, and distributing packages (prosthetic items), and coordinating property delivery.
Duties
Duties include but, are not limited to:
Dispenses off the shelf inventory items to patients, families, and providers and accurately stock post the items to the patient's 2319 Prosthetics Transaction Record.
Verifies eligibility for Prosthetics services through the Prosthetics package prior to issuing out any equipment to a patient, family member or provider.
Receives and reviews all property as received by the Prosthetics Department and determines if property needs to be brought to the attention of the supervisor. Delivers property as prescribed by sister departments which includes opening package, notating item on patient's prosthetic record as received, and delivering item directly to requesting service provider.
Validates National Prosthetics Patient Database (NPPD) data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data, vendor demographics to ensure line items are accurate on the patient record and purchase order.
Operates the Prosthetics software package to maintain detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken for Veterans and documents their records to show all items and services provided.
Utilizes APAT when issuing items and meeting the 30- days or less of inventory goal including adherence to First-In-First-Out (FIFO) standard.
Reviews incoming shipments for correct quantities, items, and initiates actions to correct deficiencies.
Reviews all consults that are submitted to the Prosthetics Department and addresses all urgent consults promptly as received. Contacts providers as needed due to inappropriate consults, items that are not Prosthetic items and items that cannot be fulfilled by Prosthetics.
Writes RTC (Return to Clinic) orders for the Prosthetics/Orthotic lab to notify MAS of items that must be picked up and fitted in an appointment visit.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

Physical Requirements: Work can be sedentary in nature at times but does require moving and lifting equipment up to 60lbs and being able to walk through the hospital for extended periods as required for deliveries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Qualifications

GS-5 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients, family and providers; receive, open, and review all property and determine if property needs to be brought to the attention of the supervisor; validate data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data; operate software package to maintain detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken and document records to show all items and services provided; review all consults that are submitted and address all urgent consults promptly as they are received; contact providers as needed due to inappropriate consults.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-5 level.
OR
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-5 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-5. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
