The purpose of the position is to perform routine and uncomplicated biological science tasks common to natural resource management. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May thru October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2025 Open to the first 50 applicants or until 01/10/2025 whichever comes first. Duties

Technician work is typically associated with and supportive of a professional field; work may involve substantial elements of the work of the professional field but requires less than full knowledge of the field involved. This position is intended to report to a specialist or resources manager in the same or a related field. Field biology tasks related to removal of exotic/invasive cattails and restoration of Wetlands. Resource inventories, exotic plant/animal monitoring and management, wildlife research, vegetation studies, operating restoration equipment, and general natural resource management. Data entry/data management will also be integral to this position. Travel by motorboat is required to conduct fieldwork. Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., packs and equipment up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/10/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: qualifying specialized experience include three (3) of the following: 1. Conducting biological field studies and surveys and assembling the information. 2.Following standardized procedures to collect data on Wildlife, Fisheries, or plants. 3. Using statistical methods and procedures to perform testing of field data collected. 4. Installing operateing and maintaining resource management equipment (tools, sampling and monitoring, photographic, and laboratory equipment) 5. Preparing graphs, charts, and illustrations for reports and technical publications relating to biological management activities. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, mathematics. NOTE: At least six semester hours of the education must have been in courses directly related to the position such as biology, ecology, natural resources management or similar. If you are qualifying based on education, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Only education in excess of second year or 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required at the GS-5 level. Then determine education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for GS-5. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-5. For example, 6 month of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience requirement) and 3 years of education above high school with at least 12 semester hours related to the position and 3 hours directly related to the position (50 percent of the education requirement) would be considered qualifying. You must include hours per week worked and include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP: CTAP/ICTAP provides placement assistance to permanent Federal employees who are surplus, displaced, or involuntarily separated. Applicants claiming CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit a copy of their most recent performance appraisal, proof of eligibility, and most current SF-50 noting position, grade level, and duty location with their application. To be considered under CTAP/ICTAP, applicants must be well-qualified (i.e., meet the minimum qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors; education, and experience requirements), score at least 85 on the assessment questionnaire, and be able to perform the duties of the position upon entry.
