This position is located in the Health Administration Service (HAS), Eligibility Section, under the direct supervision of the Eligibility Supervisor.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge with healthcare benefits, assisting families with death, burial and explanation of death benefits.
Effectively and properly analyzing and evaluating all situations to ensure that the veterans and family's welfare is protected at all times.
Administrative knowledge of scheduling and appointment coordination for diagnostic
testing, and consultative appointments for many clinical services.
Prepare written correspondence for a broad spectrum of complex inquiries from internal and
external customers by independently recognizing issues, topics or problems.
Superior communication skills, providing customer service and experience in actively listening to customers with respect and concern, paying attention to details, and customer needs.
Experience communicating and interacting with patients in a manner which is appropriate to
cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.
Develops and maintains electronic information files, enters data, and creates reports for a variety of purposes.
Knowledge and experience in the field of patient administration (both inpatient and outpatient), including medical records and related fields of medical administration, especially related to any Health Administration Service Program.
Performs basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports and maintains automated system of program-specific data to track due dates on items such as imaging follow up, scheduling preparations, report review, etc.
Integrates several types of software to generate specific working documents and forms such as spreadsheets, databases, graphics, presentations, research manuscripts, and other related
products.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm; subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/21/2025.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience using automated systems to input or retrieve data;
Performing administrative and clerical work in an office setting;
Communicating with customers and answering various questions;
Experience compiling data and preparing reports;
Entering or editing data in spreadsheets.
OR
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).
OR
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).

Physical Requirements: This is primarily a sedentary position, but the work requires some walking, bending, stopping, and carrying of light objects such as manuals, documents, etc. Concentration and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved in completion of work assignments within deadlines.
