About the Position: This is a permanent position as a Lead Firefighter located at Fort Jackson, SC.
This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Duties
Based on patients condition, opens and maintains the airway, performs pulmonary resuscitation if breathing fails to start spontaneously upon the opening of the airway, by using adjunct airway equipment.
Establishes and enforces scene control procedures, including control zones and decontamination.
Surveys the incident to identify the materials involved, determines whether hazardous materials have been released, and evaluates the surrounding conditions.
Visually checks fixed protection systems to ascertain general operation adequacy.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Requires 144 hours of work per two (2) week pay period, with one (6) 24 hour work shift each week.
- Requires that you obtain and maintain CPR and basic first aid certification.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
- This position requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
- Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends,
- i.e., mandatory overtime; recall to duty, therefore the incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at residence to aid in contact during recall situations.
- Travel up to 5% of the time for temporary duty for training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes: controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; rescue operations; detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; controlling hazardous materials incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
IN ADDITION TO SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE THE POSITION REQUIRES THE INCUMBENT TO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATIONS AT THE GS-07 GRADE LEVEL: Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification and Hazardous Materials Operations Certification. (You MUST submit a copy of these certifications or your application package will be disqualified). NOTE: These certifications must have been awarded by the DoD, IFSAC, or Pro-Board accredited training to meet this requirement. If you do not possess these certifications, you will be rated ineligible. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification (issued by state or National Registry). If the EMT certification/recertification is issued after 31 March 2015 by State or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).If you are applying for this position and you currently hold an "EMT" certification, you will be required at time of recertification to obtain an EMT certification.
