Duties

Working as an High Voltage Electrician with the Office of Research Facilities (ORF), you will: Dismantle, repair, and assemble asynchronous and induction motors, motor generators, protective relays, and high voltage circuit breakers. Pull in conductor, assemble bus bars, phase out and connects conductors. Perform emergency cut-outs and substitutions and power lines and equipment, sometimes working on distribution systems when they are energized. Repair electrical auxiliary equipment in the boiler and refrigeration plants. Install, repair, and maintain complex electric power generating and distributing equipment, trues commutators, and slip rings of rotary equipment. Perform routine and advanced test procedures to enable testing of all devices and equipment on the system.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation, verification of qualifications, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, and any other job-related requirement before or after appointment.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most craft and trades positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position. The approved job elements for this occupation are listed as follows: Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision. (screen out) Knowledge of electrical equipment. Theory and instruments (Electrical, Electronic) used in shop and trades practices. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic.) Ability to use electrical drawings. Ability to use and maintain hand tools (Electrical Work). Troubleshooting (electrical).
