You will serve as an Administrative/Technical Specialist in the Safety Management Branch of NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CTR CORONA DIV.

Duties

You will support the development, implementation, and administration of the safety and occupational health (SOH), emergency preparedness, fire prevention and radiological safety programs. You will conduct investigations in response to reported hazards in the workplace or incidents involving employee injury and property damage. You will draft command policy and report findings and make recommendations to the Safety Branch Head regarding program changes to reduce the potential for occurrence or recurrence of incidents. You will review engineering drawings, designs and plans concerning implementation of SOH requirements in the work environment. You will consult, advise and collaborate with the command customers on safety matters to resolve problems and achieve desired objectives.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying safety management and occupational health concepts, principles, practices, and regulations to review, evaluate, and provide advice on safety activities and control or eliminate safety hazards for an organization. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR
  • Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR

  • A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
