Duties

As a Lead Emergency Management Specialist you will: Represent the Division of Emergency Operations (DEO)'s chain of command, as needed, and will be used during shifts when no supervisor is on duty (i.e., at the worksite or working from an alternate work site). Serve in an incident management system (IMS) leadership or subject matter expert (SME) role during Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) IMS activations, emergency responses, and exercises. Conduct interagency and intra-agency all-hazard emergency and incident-specific planning. Assess public health emergency management programs for compliance with established public health and emergency management standards. Identify, coordinate, and prepare CDC staff for responder roles including staffing of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and deployable teams during public health emergencies or exercises.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading a team to support public health monitoring and guiding emergency response and preparedness efforts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.
