The position serves as a Maintenance Supervisor in the Mechanical Unit in Facilities Management Service at the VA Southern Oregon Healthcare System. The VA Southern Oregon Healthcare System, also known as the VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics (SORCC), provides primary care and mental health care services to veterans in southern Oregon.

This includes having an extensive knowledge of all maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance, and contract management of Plumbing-RVAC of all buildings and structures. Incumbent is also responsible for all Plumbing-HVAC work that is accomplished by contractor's labor force, manufacturer's representatives, and specialists called in to perform work that cannot be accomplished by our own work force. The M&R supervisor reviews and oversees the work of contractors and other trade specialists to ensure compliance with the terms of the contract. Employee actively works with, as well as supervises, plumbers, HVAC, and maintenance mechanics within the health care system. The supervisor is to direct the team effort in providing HVAC/Plumbing support to the medical center, within established time frames, while guaranteeing that the quality of work provided meets FMS standards and code requirements. In addition, the supervisor is expected to ensure that FMS resources are both efficiently and economically used. Incumbent also serves as the FMS coordinator for the HVAC/Plumbing shops. The Incumbent ensures that FMS customers receive the service and product requested. Assists in the preparation of the FMS budget needs for the day-to-day work activities of the HVAC/Plumbing shop and any projects that require its support.
Responsible for inspecting and repairing
HVAC-related functions, determining their condition and recommending present and future corrective measures that may be necessary to provide continuous service.

Must attend foreman meetings and meetings with the Chief, Engineering Service and report the information received at those meetings to the shop staff.
Must supervise minor improvement type jobs that require direction and liaison between shops or other hospital activities.
Must be competent in reading drawings and overcoming difficulties encountered within applying the drawing to the job site, check drawings, and order all materials needed to complete minor construction projects.
Incumbent ensures that seasonal demands for HVAC/Plumbing are addressed, by assigning optimum staff to the appropriate system as the seasonal demand dictates.
Must be knowledgeable of and be able to accomplish work according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes.
Incumbent provides technical assistance to project managers, designers, and HVAC/Plumbing shop personnel in preparing specification that involve HVAC/Plumbing and miscellaneous mechanical support.
Incumbent serves as the Contracting Officers Representative (COR) for any contract issued to support the station or projects assigned to the HVAC/Plumbing shops.
The incumbent is responsible for performing maintenance (scheduled and unscheduled) on the equipment that is assigned to the HVAC/Plumbing shop. Works closely with projects chief on In-House Construction Projects to allocate manpower and resources. Estimates the cost of construction or modification and ensures necessary funds are available.
Safety Advocate Representative- The incumbent is considered a safety advocate and representative for the shops supervised and works closely with Safety department to identify risks, issues, etc.
Asbestos Related Duties - The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations for the asbestos management program within the incumbent's shop areas, etc,

Physical Requirements: Position requires manual dexterity, good physical condition and stamina. Incumbent should be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing ladders.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in areas where it is usually dirty, dusty and greasy; outside in bad weather; and in areas where it is hot and noisy. Adequate safety procedures, training and personal protective equipment are provided to make the work environment as safe as possible. Occasionally work may be performed in service tunnels and under buildings where incumbent may be exposed to asbestos dust in the dirt or from old insulation.
