This position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, AR. The Hospital Housekeeping Officer coordinates a complete program that includes, but is not limited to, the development and maintenance of standards for cleanliness and sanitation, frequency of cleaning, methods, procedures, necessary supplies, and safety precautions to be followed.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The major duties include but are not limited to: Maintains a complete orientation and training program for housekeeping staff; Initiates a chemical labeling system and hazard communication program in accordance with federal, state, and local laws; Plans, directs, and manages the program to provide a sanitary and esthetically pleasing environment appropriate to a medical, surgical, and clinical facility; Oversees environmental management operations such as hazardous waste management, infectious waste, solid waste, sharps management, doormats, restroom restoration, recycling, universal waste, document destruction, pest control, consolidated laundry, etc.; Plans, directs, and maintains an environmental sanitation program for floors, walls, ceilings, patient beds, and equipment; Creates and initiates a sanitation program sensitive to the needs and goals of management; Serves as a consultant to leadership concerning a variety of matters related to environmental management, such as changes in policies and procedures; Prepares appropriate action based on audit recommendations; Outlines the utilization of staff by determining work required, assignments, and reviewing work activities to accomplish program responsibilities; Performs systematic internal reviews to evaluate program effectiveness, identify problems, and take corrective action; Supervises EMS employees and develops strategies in conjunction with system goals and objectives to ensure the program is current, responsive, and progressive; Analyzes resource needs (budget, staffing, space, equipment, etc.); and, Performs all other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. May require working weekends/holidays or off tours. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the following: Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Hospital Housekeeping Officer, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience performing or assisting in performing the specialized technical duties associated with planning, directing, managing, and monitoring all aspects of an environmental management program in a healthcare/hospital setting. ~AND~ Specialized experience must also include experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the Hospital Housekeeping Officer position: Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment. Experience in laundry and linen management. Experience in interior design management. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates, AND hours worked per week. ~AND~ Driver's License Requirement (Screen-out): This position requires driving a government vehicle to perform the official duties of the position; therefore, a current and valid state-issued driver's license is required. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: TECHNICAL COMPETENCE LEGAL, GOVERNMENT AND JURISPRUDENCE LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTING OPERATIONS CONFLICT MANAGEMENT TEACHING OTHERS IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work involves considerable administrative work but frequent walking, standing, lifting, bending, and stooping are required. It also involves driving to various outpatient clinics and auxiliary sites in environmentally controlled well-lit areas but can be subject to many conditions and temperature variances.
