This position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR.
Duties

Coordinating a complete program that includes the development and maintenance of standards for cleanliness and sanitation, frequency and methods of cleaning, oversight of supplies, and compliance with safety precautions;
Maintaining a complete orientation and training program for housekeeping staff;
Initiating a chemical labeling system and hazard communication program in accordance with federal, state, and local laws;
Planning, directing, and managing the program to provide a sanitary and esthetically pleasing environment;
Overseeing environmental management operations such as hazardous waste management, infectious waste, solid waste, sharps management, doormats, restroom restoration, recycling, universal waste, document destruction, pest control, consolidated laundry, etc.;
Planning, directing, and maintaining an environmental sanitation program for floors, walls, ceilings, patient beds, and equipment;
Creating and initiating a sanitation program sensitive to the needs and goals of management;
Serving as a consultant to leadership concerning a variety of matters related to environmental management, such as changes in policies and procedures;
Outlining the utilization of staff by determining work required, assignments, and reviewing work activities to accomplish program responsibilities;
Performing systematic internal reviews to evaluate program effectiveness, identify problems, and take corrective action;
Supervising EMS employees and developing strategies in conjunction with system goals and objectives to ensure the program is current, responsive, and progressive;
Analyzing resource needs (budget, staffing, space, equipment, etc.);
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in Federal service that was in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the position to be filled: experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment; experience in laundry and linen management; experience in interior design management; experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition; or experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work involves considerable administrative work but frequent walking, standing, lifting, bending, and stooping are required. It also involves driving to various subject to outpatient clinics and auxiliary sites to provide environmentally controlled well-lit areas but can be subject to many conditions and temperature variances.
