Duties

You will diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). You will test for refrigerant leaks and use a refrigerant recovery/recycling station, to Environmental Protection Agency standards to safely reclaim, recycle, and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made. You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment. You will conduct visual and audible examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• You will be required to become certified in Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery.
• You will be required to maintain a EPA Universal Certification.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: You must possess the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification exam (Universal) as a pre-qualification for this wage grade. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of air conditioning and refrigeration systems including circulating air and chilled water air conditioning systems, high, medium and low temperature refrigeration systems, and total environmental control systems; 2) Using trade tools and test equipment such as voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, temperature gauges, capacitors, and analyzers; and 3) Reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications and technical instructions.
