You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Production Division, FS NSA Philadelphia E/S/PM Division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. You will read and interpret blueprints, specifications, technical instructions, work orders and shop drawings to perform day-to-day assignments. You will maintain the efficiency, reliability, and safety of operation of systems by checking performance, diagnosing problems, and making necessary repairs. You will use a variety of tools and test equipment such as multi-meters, vacuum pumps, pressure gauges, temperature and humidity recorders, and soldering/brazing equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours, including shift work, may be required.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factor (SPF): This position has an SPF which is a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 (Universal) certification. Note -You must provide a copy of your current certification card with your application. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems (HVAC) such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling coils, humidifiers, dehumidification systems, air handlers, water control valves, and air dampers; 2) Use trade tools and test equipment such as voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, temperature gauges, capacitors, and analyzers; AND 3) Follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
