This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located within the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Emergency Medical Services, General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.
Duties
Monitor patients exhibiting signs of shock for changes in level of consciousness and vital signs.
Control external bleeding with direct pressure, elevation, pressure points, or tourniquets and treat shock.
Recognize, stabilize, and treat a wide variety of medical emergencies.
Use a variety of light rescue tools and equipment for removal of victims/patients.
Set up specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, external cardiac compression devices, and point-of-care blood testing (cardiac panels or glucose levels).
After each trip, replace used linens, blankets, and other supplies, sends supplies and equipment for sterilization, ensure ambulance is decontaminated and ready for the next run.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Tier 1, NACI Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination to determine their suitability for this position. Further physical requirements include full use of al limbs, joints, muscles, vision, hearing, etc. An annual physical is also required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a government driver's license within 45 days of Entrance on Duty.
- Initial hires may be made with a valid Missouri state EMT certification; however, they must obtain and maintain a National Registry EMT certification within 52 weeks of the date-of-hire.
- Employee must have or successfully complete HAZ-MAT Awareness training and certification within 52 weeks of their date-of-hire.
- Work is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- The employee may be required to work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out-of-cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
- The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience 1) evaluating trauma and medical emergencies to provide proper treatment, 2) administering emergency medicine techniques such as CPR/First Aid and Basic Life Support, 3) conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, and 4) operating an emergency vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Licensure/Certification:
1. Must have at a minimum, state certification at his/her grade level and obtain certification by the National Registry of EMT's (NREMT's) within 12 months after appointment. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your licensure/certification with application).
2. Must possess and maintain a Basic Cardiac Life (BLS) Support Certification.
