About the Position: This position is located within the Chemical Defense Training Facility (CDTF) located on Fort Leonard Wood, MO. The Fort is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort is located in Pulaski County, Missouri. Bordering the installation to the North are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2 hr. drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour drive to the West of the Fort.

Duties

Employ communicable disease control and containment measures. Perform routine operator safety checks and thorough equipment user maintenance inspections of Chemical Defense Treatment Facility medical room and blood draw area. Complete supply inventory and requests via established channels supply and medication stock. Operate emergency vehicles to transport patients to the Military Treatment Facility from accident sites. Respond to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury or illness and potential environmental emergencies at the Chemical Defense Training Facility campus. Conduct and complete examination of the patient/s condition to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of injuries/illness and search for medical alert information cards or jewelry. Administer medications by multiple routes (i.e., oral, topical, intradermal, rectal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, interosseous, nebulized, endotracheal, or intranasal mucosal atomization routes) to stabilize emergency patients. Closely monitor patients exhibiting signs of shock for changes in level of consciousness and vital signs. Control external bleeding with direct pressure, elevation, pressure points, or tourniquets and treat shock. Set up, operate, and monitor specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, external cardiac pacing devices, and point-of-care blood testing such as cardiac panels or glucose levels.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete the DoD Toxic Chemical Training Course within twelve months of hire.
  • NOTE: If incumbents are unable to meet this requirement due to issues beyond his/her control, special consideration maybe granted.
  • Work is typically Monday to Friday on an 8 hour per day schedule, However, the position is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights and/or holidays depending on the required training.
  • Incumbent is required to possess or obtain Haz-Mat Awareness certification within months of hire.
  • The incumbent may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
  • Incumbent may be required to assume essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
  • Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license and pass an Army approved defensive driving certification course.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing.
  • A Childcare Background Check is required.
  • This position is covered by the Health Affairs Policy 97005, 23 October 1996, which requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations unless exempted by a physician.
  • A pre-employment physical is required and may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless exempted by a physician.
  • Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification or Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider certification.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification within six months of hire.
  • Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted Missouri State Paramedic license or a valid National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification at time of hire.
  • Incumbent must obtain a Missouri State Paramedic license or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic certification, if they only have one, they must be able to obtain the other within 12 months of hire.

Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Respond to out of hospital emergency's as a paramedic providing Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) care; perform advanced airway care via endotracheal intubation and airway support with ventilator or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP); monitor and identify cardiac dysrhythmias and treat abnormal rhythms by protocol with electricity and/or medications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level (GS-09) position in the federal service. License Required: This position requires a Missouri state issued Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) license or certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P). (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your licensure/certification with application). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Clinical Analysis and JudgmentEmergency Medical CareHealth Care Data Entry and Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
