As a High Voltage Electrician Helper (Substation), you will serve as an electrician helper of an electrical substation crew for the continuous maintenance, operation, and construction of high-voltage substations and radio stations within a designated area.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out factors which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Possess a valid state driver's license at the time of employment. Once employed the incumbent will also be required to provide proof of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with all endorsements that are required to operate equipment from the state of residence within 120 days after appointment. The screen-out element for this position is: The ability to successfully perform the work of a High Voltage Electrician Helper is defined as having performed the majority of the following duties under normal supervision; maintaining, installing, modifying, calibrating, repairing of; electrical sub-stations, power generation/transmission/distribution equipment and systems at 11,000 to 500,000 volts; climbing, maintaining and repairing electrical sub-stations; transformer banks. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Working Conditions: The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress, such as working with high-voltage electrical equipment (.001 volts to 161,000 volts as general criteria), extreme outdoor weather conditions, and emergency situations at all hours of the day and any day, and foreign electrical systems. The employee must apply a wide range of safety and other precautions. Physical Effort: The work requires physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurrent bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; and recurrent lifting of moderately heavy items, such as test instruments, compression tools, and various winch lines. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
