Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Intergovernmental Relations Specialist, you will:
-Proactively monitors and analyzes the legislative, regulatory, and program initiatives and developments taking place in state and local governments that impact the agency and its programs. Employs many different methods of monitoring, including communicating with internal and external intergovernmental staff and electronic monitoring through advanced telecommunications, news, etc.
-Coordinates projects and provides strategic counsel on HUD programs to non-federal officials in conjunction with the legislative staff in CIR, regulatory staff in the Office of General Counsel (OGC), as well as HUD program offices to assure that accurate and timely information is provided to CIR senior leadership.
-Schedules and maintains a record of intergovernmental meetings. Assists in preparation for formal and informal briefings with state and local elected officials, including planning meeting topics, drafting speeches, talking points, etc. Attends state and local elected meetings to monitor and track issues and best practices from across the country. Monitors meetings and follows up on state or local issues.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Keeping Congress or State Legislatures informed of problems and deficiencies in Department programs and operations; AND
Representing and interacting with officials in or out of the government to explain, promote, and resolve issues relating to an agency's mission; AND
Making major contributions to briefing papers, presentations, and executive correspondence.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Assisting to keep Congress or State Legislatures informed of problems and deficiencies in Department programs and operations; AND
Representing and interacting with officials in or out of the government to explain, promote, and resolve issues relating to an agencies mission.
