This vacancy is for a Public Affairs Specialist in the Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration Office of Public Affairs. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting assignments in support of the Office of Public Affairs.
Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
Advise senior level executives, client executives, and managers on alternate approaches to organizational communication issues and strategies.
Coordinate social media campaigns and related project management activities.
Engage and interact with stakeholders, i.e., government, local communities, civil organizations, to further communications strategies and policies from standpoints of government, communication and media, and social responsibility.
Identify areas of risk requiring new or modified communication approaches to ensure consistency of delivered messages.
Produce materials conveying complex information to a diverse audience through the use of a variety of media tools.
Serve as a liaison and resource to media representatives and/or employees by providing information concerning activities or operations of an organization.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
To qualify at the GS-12:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Advise senior staff and others on innovative approaches to organization-wide media and communication.
Collaborate with others, i.e., internal and/or external audiences to further communication strategies.
Plan and carry out assignments, including briefing stakeholders.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
