This position is located in the Office of Communications, Washington, DC, of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in keeping the press, general public, and other interested stakeholders informed regarding FDIC policies, regulations, and responsibilities. Duties

Provides expert advice on operationalizing OCOM's strategic direction, particularly with regards to protecting and enhancing the FDIC's public profile. Ensures that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team’s strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. Develop communications plans and strategies for the dissemination of complex information on a wide range of agency activities and programs.Conveys FDIC's policies, regulations, and responsibilities to members of the media to help promote accurate reporting about the agency. Responds to reporter inquiries, conducts research, pitches stories to members of the media when appropriate, and keeps internal stakeholders informed about areas of media interest. Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor’s instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, provides advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assists the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. Maintains program and administrative reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and make available policies, procedures and written instructions from the supervisor; maintains current knowledge to answer questions from team members on procedures, policies, directives, etc.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CG-14 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as representing an agency, organization, government office, or corporation in planning and carrying out public and media affairs programs, and advising senior management on communication strategies and public affairs matters dealing with the financial services industry, the press, and general public. Applicants must have met the qualification requirements (including selective placement factors – if any) for this position within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.
