About the Position: This position is located at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, CA. This is a DOD Demonstration Project position.

Duties

Provide clerical support composing correspondence, preparing forms and documents, and maintaining files and records. Screen incoming documentation/mail to identify what needs to be brought to attention of supervisor, staff or rerouted to other offices/organizations. Proofread correspondence for procedural and grammatical adequacy, conformation with general policy, factual correctness. Keep supervisor's calendar and schedule appointments and conferences based on supervisor's workload, commitment and current issues of importance. Direct telephone calls, visitors, and inquiries to appropriate personnel. Maintain time and attendance records in accordance with established procedures. Transmit documents and messages electronically using personal computers or workstations that are networked or linked to other computers or workstations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position requires Tuberculosis Testing and/or record of Tuberculosis Testing.

OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Care Management, Business Administration or English. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:ClericalComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical) Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (NK-I).
