Incumbent assists the Service in day-to-day operations of Prosthetics & Sensory Aids Service (P&SAS) for both Chillicothe and Cincinnati VAMC based on a working knowledge of programs and equipment.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Assists in providing specialized services to seriously disabled veterans including amputees, deafened and blind veterans and paraplegics/quadriplegics.
Ascertains problems, provides advice and assistance, and when necessary, refers the patients or family member to the appropriate hospital official/service who may be able to help.
Receives and interprets electronic consults and prosthetic requests and reviews for completeness, comparing diagnosis or disability to equipment and/or service normally provided for the condition for which requested and/or proper documentation has been provided to justify the issuance.
Performs the administrative procedures to document issuance of prosthetic items.
Assists in determining equipment and other resources needed to accomplish work assignments as appropriate.
Receives, and forwards calls to various areas of the hospital.
Receives and orders stock, stock issues items to Veteran's record, issues or mails stock issued items, and assists in the management of Prosthetics items as needed.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/27/2024.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: answering and directing incoming calls, taking messages, distributing informational brochures; providing equipment for post hospital care to those with related disabilities; interprets electronic consults and requests and reviews for completeness; routing and tracking correspondences; receives and orders stock. OR,
Education (Transcripts Required): Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed four (4) years above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. OR,
Combination (Transcripts Required): Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond two (2) years and specialized experience as described above that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this Prosthetics Clerk position.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work is mostly of a sedentary nature, with some transporting of items, such as prosthetic items, files, patient records and mail. May periodically handle equipment returned from veterans with contagious diseases.
