This position is aligned under the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Line (RECL) at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Texas. The incumbent serves as the Program Support Assistant (PSA), Office Automation (OA), to the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Line Executive.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Performs work involving the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information in support of the program operations.
Performs office automation duties using such software applications as electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, spreadsheet, database, and/or graphics.
Prepares, composes, and/or reviews correspondence prepared for the purpose of obtaining or supplying information.
Plans and coordinates a variety of general office support services in support of the work of an organization, such as requisition, purchase, storage, and maintenance of stock levels; installation, repair, maintenance, and disposal of office equipment, etc..
Prepares a variety of special reports, identifies, and solicits necessary information.
Serves as the Primary Timekeeper and monitors and reports on time and attendance.
Receives telephone calls and visitors to the area regarding matters such as directions, information for contacting various departments, services, and requests for changes.
Manages human resource duties by preparing personnel actions and awards for staff.
Performs a wide variety of record-keeping duties, updating manuals on policy and directives, maintaining files, and coordinating meetings, conferences and training classes, using Microsoft Outlook and other software.
Initiates card issuance, verifies that an applicant has appropriate identification, confirms that an applicant is in good standing with the VA.
Responsible for troubleshooting and diagnosing software and hardware problems.
Coordinates education training requirements by monitoring and tracking assignments and preparing travel and/or education requests and reimbursement.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am- 4:30 pm; subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/30/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Providing administrative and clerical support, such as answering telephone calls and serving as a resource to provide information
Generating reports and disseminating pertinent information to staff.
Utilizing various electronic computer systems, including Microsoft Word, CPRS, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.
Managing and organizing information electronically.
Communicating with various stakeholders, including Veterans, their families, leadership/managerial staff, and colleagues.
Minimum Qualification- OA Requirement: Applicants for this position must show possession of the following skill: 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by self-certifying their proficiency. You should be aware your self-certification of possession of this skill is subject to evaluation and verification.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
