About the Position: Operate various motor vehicles while exercising judgement in placement of cargo, vehicle clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and maintaining proper distance from other vehicles.
Duties
Operates various heavy equipment vehicles which typically have a GVW over 36,000 pounds, on public roads at highway speed.
Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift truck in order to lift loads weighing under 36,000 pounds.
Use a computer terminal or other electronic device (e.g. a bar code scanner) to record receipt, location, issue, and inventory information.
Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments of items arriving via various modes of transportation.
Conducts warehouse inventories, maintaining tally listings during the count.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The employee is required to work overtime.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
- This position requires the employee to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
- This position involves duties that are subject to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination.
- Lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 70 pounds may be required.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Must either possess or obtain and maintain a Forklift Certification within 90 days of employment.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain within 180 days of employment, a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Passenger Endorsements.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler/Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties: I have operated motor vehicles to include platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, tractor trailer, and dump trucks to haul a variety of materials. I have insured that cargo is secured to trailers/semi-trailers to prevent shifting or falling. I have backed trailers into loading docks, between other trailers and parking areas safely. I have performed preventative maintenance on vehicles. I have operated forklift trucks carrying loads under 36,000 pounds. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work is generally performed on hard surfaces, uneven ground surfaces, and in areas that require the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, climb, use excessive arm movement, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequent lifting and carrying of parts, equipment, and packed containers weighing up to 40 pounds is required. May occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 70 pounds (occasionally over 70 pounds) while loading and unloading cargo. Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned, as directed by the supervisor. The types of protective clothing and equipment include eye, foot protection, and protective clothing (gloves, apron, coveralls, etc.). During forklift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms.
Working Conditions: Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Work is performed inside shop areas or in partly enclosed areas that are sometimes uncomfortably warm, cool, damp, or drafty; and outside in all kinds of weather, this includes extremely cold and windy climates. Frequently exposed to loud noises such as those from other motorized equipment. Exposed to work on concrete floors and in areas where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes and noise.
