About the Position: You will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator, performing a variety of manual labor tasks incidental to motor vehicle operations activities, for US Army Garrison Alaska, Greely Directorate of Public Works.

Duties

Operate gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles with gross weights of 22,000 pounds to 53,000 pounds. Ensure cargo is properly loaded and secured prior to transporting. Maintain trip tickets and other documentation. Perform driver maintenance on vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". In the event of a crisis situation or wartime, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties and requirements of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • The incumbent of this test-designated position is subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis as a condition of employment under the Expanded Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Civilian Drug Testing Program.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator~ without more than normal supervision. I can operate platform trucks, stake trucks or dump trucks, and I am able to perform some operator maintenance duties, such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions- Required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading/unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles.
