This position is part of the Security Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.
Duties
Conducting and performing law enforcement, anti-terrorism, and security functions to preventing crime and protecting lives and property.
Making arrests, conducting investigations, conducting bomb searches, performing legal searches and seizure operations, collecting and protecting evidence.
Responding to individuals who are disruptive or uncooperative; exercising authority to detain and make arrests.
Providing immediate responses to all emergency calls and duress alarms, within GPO boundaries; preparing reports including loss, theft, incident, attendance, activity, assignment, fire, and inventory reports.
Requirements
- You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
- This is a law enforcement position that is mandatory for officers to carry and maintain bi-annual proficiency with a firearm.
- Selectee may be required to pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify
Qualifications
To qualify for the Lead Police Officer, PQ-0083-6, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PQ-0083-05 grade level in the Federal Service, that include experience in police operations, practices, and techniques and involve responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This experience must include:
Pursuing, apprehending, and detaining individuals.
Conducting police investigations, collecting evidence, preparing reports.
Conducting interior and exterior foot patrols, along with vehicle patrol.
Providing immediate responses to all medical emergencies and duress alarms.
Conditions of Employment
The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers the position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
The incumbent must complete an annual medical examination.
The incumbent must have and maintain a valid state or District of Columba Driver's license.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
