This position is in the Emergency Room Department at the Shiprock Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. Evaluate the Nursing needs of patients, develop Nursing care, plan patient care assignments, implements and modify as needs change; provides or directs the provision of comprehensive Nursing care, delegates duties to appropriate personnel, teach and supervise their work as needed. Participates in the evaluation of quality patient care.

Performs professional nursing duties for patients whose conditions warrants specialized care of a wide variety of injuries and illness.
Assesses the patient and develops an individualize nursing plan of care through admission interview of the patient and family members, reviews the patient's health records and consults with the physician; assesses, determines and evaluates appropriate type of physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural care needed.
Observes and assesses the patient's clinical condition, gathers and interprets data from the patient's history and physical assessment; decides appropriate nursing action based on interpretation of data informs the physician of patient's conditions.
Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures and assist the team and/or individual member in identifying the parameters of a viable solution.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Direct the admission, discharge and general flow of patients, assigning nurses and support staff to patients; provide guidance on administering care to new patients or those with special needs and answer questions regarding protocol; assist nurse(s) to create a plan of care that is individualized to a patient's needs; develop and implement training courses and organize seminars to help educate and train new nurses and staff; document the performance of nurses, perform evaluations and counsel nurses on unsatisfactory performance; meet with upper management to discuss personnel and administrative issues and address and solve problems among staff; create schedules, maintain adequate supplies and inform staff of changes to protocol; assess and monitor patients, confer with doctor on a patient's progress and reporting special circumstances.
Maintain certification in CPR, PALS, ACLS and TNCC.
