This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Diagnose equipment malfunctions for a variety of aviation electronics utilized by air traffic and ground traffic controllers for arriving or departing aircraft. Repair or replace aviation electronics components, tunes, adjusts, and/or aligns equipment. Complete overall system evaluations during and/or after flight checks and certifies equipment for normal operation. Provide hands-on training to other technicians on assigned equipment to include research and preparation of training materials, preparation of course lesson plan, establishing pass/fail criteria, and development of course exams. Perform system modification tests as prescribed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) directives or recommends modifications for adoption which eliminate malfunctions or failures and/or improves systems' performance. Perform technical antenna and/or transmission line testing In Accordance With (IAW) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards and/or tolerances.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain a valid driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to climb stairs or ladders up to 85 feet and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work rotating shifts.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work a non-standard tour of duty; this may include working nights, weekends, rotating shifts, and/or holidays based upon mission needs, to include emergency call.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.
  • This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization.

To Qualify for GS-11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing maintenance on air traffic control communication subsystems and components with radar features that are used in air traffic and ground traffic control of arriving and departing aircraft. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). To Qualify for GS-12: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing maintenance and troubleshooting of air traffic control communication subsystems and components with radar features that are used in air traffic and ground traffic control of arriving and departing aircraft. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). This position has a Selective Placement Factor which must be met prior to employment at the GS-12 grade level and for continued employment: The incumbent is required to possess and maintain an Air Traffic Control equipment certifications on at least two systems with the following complexity category III and/or complexity category II areas: Standard Terminal Automation Radar (Replacement) System (STARS) Generation 4 or Elite, Airport Surveillance Radar ASR-11, Fixed-Base Precision Approach Radar (FBPAR), Mark 20 Instrument Landing System (ILS), AN/TRN41 VHF Omni Range (VOR), 415 Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), Interim Voice Switch Replacement (IVSR), or Voice Switch By-Pass (VSBP).
