Duties

Design instrumentation and capabilities from the concept stage to the finished design or prototype. Conduct cost/benefit analyses to capture differences in man-hours associated with rework. Analyze records and reports and make detailed on-site studies of the work in progress in recurring critical problem areas. Evaluate issues and determine which approach should be taken to solve the issues with managed equipment. Exercise initiative in providing innovative on-site solutions to problems. Prepare and present reports, briefings to supervisor and leadership on issues found. Make use of commercial-off-the-shelf items and/or designs and develop special capabilities required to meet unique test requirements.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• May be required to travel (TDY) 10% of the time for business purposes.
• Must obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Providing technical guidance such as: design, development, test and evaluation, repair and modification of testing equipment for automotive systems; 2) Evaluating maintenance capabilities such as: weapon system failures, maintenance programs, performance data, and statistical information to make recommendations on repair of mechanical/electronic weapon systems; OR 3) Examining failed parts from sources (e.g., automated diagnostic and test equipment, manufacturer's technical manuals, specifications, and maintenance records) to determine failures such as: mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
