This position is located the Chugach National Forest.
The incumbent is responsible for providing technical expertise in the coordination of the unit's Volunteer Program.

Duties
Responsible for directing the operation of a district and/or zone volunteer program.
Formulates and implements project work plans in accordance with agency policy. Ensures the quality of the work performed by partners and volunteers.
Participates in the identification, plan development and coordination the work of a large number of volunteers, normally in the range of 4,000 to 6,000 people per year.
Prepares project plans to determine equipment, supply, manpower and training requirements to accomplish projects that will be completed utilizing volunteers.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-06: You must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Examples include: Participate in the direction and operation of an organization's volunteer program and/or; Assist in formulation and implementation of project work plans and/or; Oversee daily operations of a variety of volunteer and/or; Provide input on project plans and/or; Recruit and schedule volunteers and/or; Inspect work in progress and/or; Compile and report statistical records and/or; Plan work to be accomplished by the unit.
For the GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following examples:Direct the operation of volunteer program and/or; Formulate and implement project work plans and/or; Prepare project plans to accomplish projects and/or;Recruit, administer, and coordinate the work of a large number of volunteers and/or; Train and supervise additional volunteer supervisors and/or; Consult with program specialists in all areas to obtain the necessary information to meet organizational objectives.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
