This position is located in Chugach National Forest. The incumbent serves as a Forestry Technician performing work in support of the unit's recreation and trails program, responsible for implementing both annual and long-term work plans for developed recreation sites sites (campgrounds, day use sites, trailheads, boat launches, etc.) and trails (motorized and non-motorized).

Duties
Assists other resource personnel to develop long-range plans for managing recreation resources within management-developed and dispersed recreation sites on the unit.
Assists in the implementation of recreation operation and maintenance plans for developed and dispersed recreation sites.
Monitors the scope of the approved operating plans.
Gathers, compiles, and recommends improvements for developed and dispersed recreation sites on the unit.
Prepares job hazard analysis and conducts safety training for all projects.
Patrols management unit (including trails) to collect use data, identify or correct unsafe conditions, answer visitor inquiries, prevent vandalism and other anti-social behavior.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following:
Scheduling and performing maintenance for developed recreation sites; and/or
Recommending corrective action on safety hazards for public recreational use areas; and/or
Installing travel or regulatory signs at recreational sites.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
