You will serve as a Interdisciplinary Engineer (F-35 Propulsion Engineer) in the Commanding Officer Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized to eligible selectees.

Duties

You will determine the best approach to resolve complex technical engineering problems by identifying programmatic constraints and developing the ultimate solution considering all relative factors. You will oversee development and management of products and services required to sustain economic operation and ensure airworthiness. You will ensure industrial planning and support of platform systems, components, and field teamwork/maintenance is accomplished efficiently. You will analyze/recommend adjustments to specified service life intervals for aircraft/weapons and equipment. You will prepare correspondence, technical reports, and instructions for submittal to the FST leadership, other activities and contractors as may be required to answer inquiries, relay or request information, and establish work assignments. You will design, analyze, prototype, and implement comprehensive metrics and models in order to measure and evaluate program accomplishments and effectiveness.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Professional ability to apply engineering knowledge is defined as the ability to (a) apply fundamental and diversified professional engineering concepts, theories, and practices to achieve engineering objectives with versatility, judgment, and perception; (b) adapt and apply methods and techniques of related scientific disciplines; and (c) organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate scientific data in the solution of engineering problems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1) A broad background and knowledge of F-35 Lightning Support Team (LST) products and processes to include MRO Deviation Requests (MDR), Action Requests (AR), and Time Compliant Technical Directives (TCTD) specific to the F-35 aircraft, the F135 Engine, or the LiftSystem. 2) Demonstrated experience with Turbo Fan, Turbo Shaft or Turbo Machinery products. 3) Effective Senior Engineer leadership, technical conscience, sound judgement, and authority for assigned systems; effective communication skills, presenting recommendations and negotiating solutions to disputes. 4) Familiarity with coordination of critical tasks and support for items such as: mishaps, engineering investigations, aircraft sustainment, configuration management, and airworthiness/safety assessments. 5) Understanding of internal and external stakeholders including: Joint Program Office (JPO), DCMA, NAVAIR, OEMs, contractors, USN, USAF, USMC, Cooperative Partner Personnel (CPP), FMS customers, and others. Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
