This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This Supervisory Mechanical Engineer GS-13 position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District with a duty station location of Fort Worth, TX. Recruitment is being announced using Special Salary Rate Table 0754 for this location.

Duties

Review designs and design analyses for civil (dam, levees, and flood control structures) and military projects (barracks, dining facilities, company operations building, etc.) designed by in-house and private sector consultants. Coordinate and review work in progress, utilizing knowledge of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems, local area networks, and a variety of engineering software run on CADD workstations and personal computers. Determines, plans, and provides for both long-range and short-term training, and assists employees in career development. Deals authoritatively in contacts and negotiations with architect-engineer, using service representatives, and representatives of higher echelons where the most controversial matters of mechanical design are involved. Prepare special technical reports and information as required by higher authority, with such work considered authoritative in the mechanical engineering field and usually being accepted as to technical accuracy.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to have State Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) License. This must be uploaded at the time of application.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Reviewing plans and specifications as well as design criteria, calculations, and analyses for civil and military projects.; 2) Performing various supervisory or leader duties such as project management and oversight, interviewing, training coordination, assign/review employee work, performance evaluation.; AND 3) Preparing all designs, amendments, and modifications using state-of-the-art computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) and building information modeling (BIM) technology. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
