About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, 404TH Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, located in JBLM, WA.
Duties
Verify materials against contracts, purchase orders, and/or specifications.
Prepare discrepancy reports for identified issues.
Handle hazardous materials following regulatory procedures.
Review documentation for accuracy during inventory.
Examine equipment for defects.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain forklift training and certification to lift up to 16,000 lbs. within 90 days from the date of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Examiner and Identifier (Fork Lift Operator) without more than normal supervision. Perform the full range of Materials Examiner and Identifier duties, which include receiving, examining, and verifying a wide variety of materials and equipment, inspecting items for defects and discrepancies, handling hazardous materials according to regulatory criteria, reviewing documentation for accuracy, and operating forklifts for material movement and storage. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Physical Effort: Materials examiners and identifiers, grade 5, perform moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or handtruck. They walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. The work requires bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in containment areas on a year round basis. Examiners may be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling materials and equipment and are subject to hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, cranes, and conveyor lines. When handling hazardous materials, protective equipment is provided.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
